Welcome To The Sibelius Academy!
The Sibelius Academy is the only music university in Finland and one of the biggest in Europe. In addition to providing the highest education in the field of music, it engages in performance and creative art and research and is committed to the fostering and renewing Finland's musical culture and cultural heritage. It also seeks active collaboration with Finnish society and participates in the development of culture.
Students who have been admitted to the Sibelius Academy start by studying towards the Master of Music (MMus) Degree. The Sibelius Academy offers also postgraduate degrees with artistic and research options. The postgraduate, higher degrees are the Licentiate and Doctor of Music.
There are about 1 400 students at Sibelius Academy The number of full-time teachers is about 180 and the number of part-time teachers is about 300. Besides Helsinki, the Academy has premises in the towns of Kuopio, Järvenpää and Seinäjoki. The current Rector, Head of the Sibelius Academy, is Mr. Gustav Djupsjöbacka (began as a rector in August 2004).
